The owner-designer-builder team talked with end-users of the dining hall, including staff and students, about how the building could be best utilized. The team reconfigured kitchen equipment and researched cost-efficient equipment substitutes, saving approximately $1.65 million on the dining hall alone. This savings enabled the University to add a laminated glass solar panel system to shade the outdoor dining area while providing up to 10 kilowatts of power.
